Belgian and former Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard has announced his retirement from football at the age of 32.
Announcing his decision, Hazard noted that one has to know when to stop. His career spans over sixteen years and over 700 games played.
“I made my dream come true: play and have fun on the pitches all over Europe and the world. During my career, I have met great people, managers, coaches, and teammates, and I wanted to thank especially the clubs I passed through LOSC, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, and obviously thank again the Belgian national team. Special thanks to my family, friends, advisors, and people who have been close to me in good and bad times.”
Most importantly, Hazard thanked football fans for following and supporting him throughout all these years. The news comes after his former club Real Madrid terminated his contract with mutual consent. According to Football reporter Fabrizio Romano, Madrid “saved a huge part of his salary by terminating his contract one year before.” Hazard will leave the club as of 30 June 2023.
