- The decision to step down was mutual, following immense public pressure and threats to him and his family.
The principal of Bergview College, Jaco Pieterse, has resigned from his post, following a period of intense scrutiny and public pressure related to a sexual assault case at the school.
The departure, which was confirmed on 3rd August 2025, follows an ordeal that began in October 2024 when Pieterse was wrongly linked to the alleged assault of a seven-year-old pupil.
The incident, involving a learner known as Cwecwe, sparked widespread outrage.
Despite being officially cleared by the National Prosecuting Authority due to a lack of evidence and confirmation that he had no contact with the child on the day of the incident, Pieterse continued to face significant public backlash and threats.
The school confirmed that this was fuelled in part by statements from high-profile figures.
The immense strain on both Pieterse and his family led to a mutual decision to part ways with Bergview College.
In a statement, the school expressed its regret over the situation and commended Pieterse for his full cooperation with all authorities throughout the investigation.
