The story of four young men from Ravensmead, near Cape Town, who shot to fame three years ago is being told in a new short documentary titled GHAM! Ons het lyn.
The film chronicles the journey of The Temple Boys – Chadley Dick, Dylin Adams, Terriano Duimpies, and Ronin Johannes –from viral sensation to grappling with broken dreams and financial exploitation.
The group, known for their unique Gqom hits with Afrikaans lyrics like “Saggies,” saw their music as a potential escape from the Cape Flats.

However, their sudden success came with a dark side. The documentary reveals how the young artists were financially exploited by some of their agents, leaving them with little to show for their viral fame.
Director Eric Says, was drawn to their story after his brother, a music producer, introduced him to the group.
“Their fusion of Afrikaans lyrics with Gqom beats fascinated me,” Snyders explained.
“As we spent time with them, we realised there was a deeper story of perseverance, hope, and exploitation beneath the surface.”
The film captures the group’s resilience and do-it-yourself spirit, showcasing their battle to keep their dream alive despite the setbacks. Snyders praised the group’s honesty, which took time to build. Regarding the exploitation, Snyders confirmed that no legal action was taken.
“The guys were young and naive, and their parents didn’t know any better,” he said, noting the absence of proper agreements that would have protected the artists.
Despite the challenges, The Temple Boys are on the comeback trail. They have a new single, “My Man, My Man,” and an upcoming album, and have begun performing again.
