Khloe Kardashian has opened up about her struggles to bond with her son, born via surrogate in August 2022.
The younger sister to Kim Kardashian shared in an interview with L’Officiel Magazine, and on her reality show, The Kardashians, that she experienced a significant sense of detachment from her son, Tatum.
Khloe thanked her sister Kim, who also used a surrogate for her two youngest children, for being with her every step of the way.
But the Good American businesswoman said she was filled with guilt at not feeling a strong connection with her son, compared to when her daughter was born.
Khloe gave birth to her daughter True Thompson in 2018, but due to health concerns, she was unable to carry her second baby naturally.
She shares that the “situation” she went through when her surrogate was pregnant with her son is what caused the detachment issues, which she is working through.
The situation Khloe is referring to, is when her ex-boyfriend and father to both her children, Tristan Thompson admitted that he’d cheated on her and was expecting a baby with the woman he’d had a one-night stand with.
Khloe previously shared how her surrogate had just confirmed that she was pregnant with the couple’s second child, when news that Tristan had cheated on Khloe again.
“The surrogate process, Kim knows has been really hard for me. I definitely buried my head in the sand during that pregnancy that I didn’t digest what was happening.
It was only when I went to the hospital, when the surrogate was in labour, that was the first time that it registered. It has nothing to do with the baby, I definitely was in a state of shock, from the entire experience in general.” Khloe Kardashian on her surrogacy experience
Khloe said she couldn’t help but feel her surrogacy experience was a very transactional one, and wished someone had told her how to prepare for the transition.
The 39-year old said she wasn’t trying to deter people from trying surrogacy, rather just being transparent and vulnerable even when her truth hurts.
Khloe opening up about her struggles to bond with her son comes a few days after celebrities John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, as well as Naomi Campbell welcomed babies born via surrogacy.
