Stellenbosch University has been hit by another racism scandal after a female student detailed she had been verbally abused by a white student.
The female Indian student is said to be undergoing counselling after the incident left her feeling humiliated and racially profiled.
It was at a law Faculty Dance that racist rhetorics were hurled at the female student of colour.
She had, according to the Juridical Society of Stellenbosch University, requested a Bollywood song to be played.
As reported by News24, the Juridical Society said, “It involved the request by an Indian student that an Indian song be played. Upon this request, a white law student allegedly made abhorrent racist and defamatory comments that are offensive and degrading.”
The incident had allegedly been witnessed by another law student who chose to turn a blind eye on the matter and laughed in the girl’s face when asked to come forward as a witness.
The university say it’s in discussions with all who attended the dance to probe what transpired.
It is reported this incident took place a few days before a white student urinated on a black student’s belongings at Stellenbosch University.
Students who staged a protest after a viral video showed Theuns Du Toit peeing on a first-year student’s possessions said the incident wasn’t isolated.
The university has since suspended Du Toit in the racism scandal.
