The Portuguese FA has responded to reports that their captain, Cristiano Ronaldo has threatened to leave their national team.
In Portugal’s last World Cup Group Stage game, captain and all-time leading goal scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo was subbed off by coach Santos before the final whistle.
The marksman did not look too pleased as he had an exchange with the coach as he was walking off the field.
This raised rumours that there was a fallout in the camp, leading to Ronaldo being dropped off in Portugal’s 6-1 win over Switzerland.
The FA has come on record to deny this.
“Reports claiming Cristiano Ronaldo threatened to leave the national team during a conversation with Fernando Santos are not true — FPF clarifies that at no time did Cristiano threaten to leave the national team in Qatar”.
Ronaldo has told the media that whether he scores or not, the most important thing is that his national team wins.
