Thomas and Skhumba In The Morning speak the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and when it comes to loadshedding the duo have not held back.
“Loadshedding can be so embarrassing fam, like imagine you’re at a wedding and gah, the power just goes. Like guys, I was watching the Carling Currie Cup clash between Western Province and the Pumas on the weekend and loadshedding just hit. Things were just getting heated, like can you imagine.”
Thomas on how loadshedding can embarrass you
Skhumba also shared a few instances when loadshedding caught him at the worst possible time, once whilst getting his hair cut and another time while he was on-stage during a show.
“I had to go home because the power was only going to come back on in 4-hours. So, I went home and put hair removal cream on my head because my hair was a mess. I looked like Joshua Doore, I was so embarrassed. The second time was on-stage during a show, then boom darkness, I couldn’t do anything. No mics, no lights, nothing. The audience just started singing.”
Skhumba shared his worst loadshedding days
Worst loadshedding day ever
Eskom always tells you to check your loadshedding schedules so you can “properly prepare” and plan your days around loadshedding.
Hilarious, considering the power utility switches the power off at short notice, like over the weekend, when Eskom announced literally 10 minutes before 17h00 on Sunday that loadshedding needed to be implemented.
Worst-case scenario, you were preparing your dinner or were comfortable in front of the heater, because it was cold on Sunday, and now you have to discard your uncooked food, sit there in the cold and dark and dream of better days.
Families are forced to take a bath by candlelight, eat cold food, kids have to study or finish homework using torches or the candles, geysers run cold, security becomes a problem, cellphones run flat…and the list just goes on.
With loadshedding expected to continue and this year pitted as the worst ever, South Africans are forced to put up with it.
Here are some of the worst experiences during loadshedding:
- I had an interview but couldn’t get my gate and garage opened. After struggling to get them opened manually, I just had to accept that I couldn’t leave my house.
- It was my sister’s wedding and loadshedding hit, there was no way of getting a generator and it was a mess. Food was cold, people couldn’t see, and many just left without even eating. What was supposed to be a memorable day, was just ruined.
- I was just home from the hospital with my newborn and had stitches because it was a c-section. My baby was asleep and I was just taking a bath. I didn’t realise the power had gone off and my baby started crying. In the panic of trying to get to my screaming newborn in the dark, I bumped into the wall and my stitches had opened up.
