The department of sports, arts, and culture plan to spend R22m on a “monumental” South African flag plus R5 million on geotechnical studies.
R27 million rands would definitely go a long way. “What kind of projects would you rather see the department of sports, arts, and culture spend the reported R27 million earmarked for a monumental SA flag?” Asks Thomas and Skhumba on the morning show.
Xolani says we need a petition.”How about we write a petition to the minister to stop him from spending this kind of money. There are better things we can do like building parks, where kids can keep themselves busy.”
Thembi from Vosloo is angered by this. “I’m angry because our children don’t have access to certain sports like hockey. They need to be exposed to more,” she shares.
Reactions on social media:
Why in God's name do we need a 100metre flag costing 27 million rand when we have so many problems as a country. Invest that money in building SMMEs, getting rid of pit toilets and and. What stupidity is this. #ThomasAndSkhumba @KayaOnAir

@KayaOnAir @thomasmsengana @skhumbi we need to intergrade the sports department with the education department so we don’t end up with school mess. #thomasandskhumba
