Western Cape Police have detained four people for questioning in connection with the disappearance of Joslin Smith.
The 6-year old from Saldanha Bay went missing on 19 February, after allegedly being left in the care of her mother Kelly’s boyfriend, Jacquin Appollis.
In a statement from the Western Cape Provinicial Commissioner’s office, police expect arrests to be made and say they are following all leads to find Joslin whose whereabouts are still unknown.
“On Tuesday, 05 March Western Cape detectives took in four individuals, two males and two women between the ages of 26 to 34-years in for questioning.
A number of people were questioned in the investigation of the disappearance of Joslin Smith.
The investigation saw the team of detectives visiting several places within the West Coast town and interviewing several other persons.
The search for Joslin brought individuals, NGOs, community activists, police officials, neighbourhood watches and representatives from differentt spheres of government together in the quest t find the missing girl.
It is envisaged that as the investigation unfolds, light will be shed as to her whereabouts or what happened to her.”
Western Cape police spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa could not confirm reports that Joslin was allegedly sold for R20 000 but shared that they will follow all these leads.
It is believed that Joslin’s mother Kelly and her boyfriend, who is also known as Boeta are amongst the 4 taken in for questioning.
Kelly, a mother of 3, previously admitted that both she and Boeta are Tik users, and she has been accused by community members and her family of selling the child.
On Saturday, 02 March blood-stained clothing believed to be Joslin’s were found in an open field a few kilometres from the Diazville, Saldanha Bay informal settlement that Joslin went missing from.
The clothing was sent to labs for forensic testing and there has been no update from police as to whether the blood on the clothing matches Joslin’s DNA.
Police say the search for Joslin is still underway.
