On Monday, 30 October the N3 Toll Route between Durban and Johannesburg issued a warning to motorists of dangerous driving conditions due to heavy rains, sleet, and snowfall which was reported between Van Reenens Pass and Warden.
Icy conditions, light snow, rain, and freezing temperatures are affecting parts of the route, and drivers are warned that roads can become slippery and dangerous.
Drivers are requested to adjust their driving behaviour according to the prevailing weather conditions.
“Reduce your travelling speed, increase following distances, and keep your vehicle’s headlights switched on, especially when visibility is poor or roads are wet.
Avoid overtaking unless necessary, and only proceed when it’s safe to do so.
Take care only to stop at designated parking areas.”
Motorists are also advised to keep their vehicle’s emergency supplies stocked in the event there are delays due to congestion or collisions.
A vehicle medical kit should consist of warm blankets, a spare set of clothes, water, food, medication, a first aid kit, a cell phone, a charger, and a torch.
