The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms in Gauteng.
The Yellow Level 2 warning was issued for Sunday evening, 15 October, and is expected to continue on Monday, 16 October.
Parts of Gauteng were hit with severe hailstorms on Sunday, with residents of Vereeniging and Thokoza, Ekurhuleni sharing videos of the aftermath of storms.
“Severe thunderstorms with possible damaging winds, large amount of small hail, and heavy downpours are expected to cause the breaking of tree branches and damage to poorly constructed settlements.
Mainly strong gusty winds are possible over Gauteng, and extreme western areas of Mpumalanga and Limpopo.”

The first thunderstorms affected the south of Gauteng on Sunday.
Gauteng Weather predicts a 60% probability of rain between 16h00 and 00h00 on Monday.
