Tshwane couple Lerato and Sibusiso Mahlangu who allegedly faked the husband’s death in order to cash in on his insurance policy, will remain behind bars until September as the matter was postponed yet again.
The duo who were dubbed Thabo Bester and Dr Nandipha 2.0 are accused of faking Sibusiso’s death in a 2022 house fire in Soshanguve.
Fortunately, the couple’s elaborate plan to live large came crashing down after Sibusiso was arrested in Hammanskraal on 16 April 2023, driving a stolen VW.
Sibusiso refused to take fingerprints upon his arrest, telling police the system will reveal that he’s a dead man.
This is how details about their gruesome crime came to light.
The couple stand accused of the murder of Lerato’s ex-lover and father of her daughter, Sibusiso Sithebe, who’s burnt remains were believed to be found inside their RDP home.
Lerato and Sibusiso Mahlangu who have remained in custody since their arrest last year due to bail being denied, will need to wait until September for their trial to resume.
This is due to the State still waiting for bank statements from Capitec to trace a payment Lerato reportedly made to a family friend.
Lerato and Sibusiso Mahlangu are facing a number of charges which includes a count of murder, a count of conspiracy to commit murder and 3 counts of fraud for claiming more than R500 000 from Old Mutual in life policy claims.
Sibusiso Sithebe’s family reported him missing in 2022, and are still waiting for justice for his murder.
