The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have slammed police for their complacency in the death of Hillary Gardee.
According to the EFF, police missed that Gardee had been shot execution style at the back of her head before moving her body from the crime scene.
Gardee’s body was found on Tuesday, 3 May, 45km outside of Nelspruit, with what police called “injuries to her head.”
Speaking to media outside her family’s home in Nelspruit on Wednesday afternoon, Sinawo Thambo, EFF and the Gardee family spokesperson said it was shocking that police missed this detail.
“There’s a concerning revelation that Hillary had been shot, and the police completely missed that. They removed her body from the crime scene without picking up that a bullet had entered her head. That is the incompetence that leads to vigilante groups being formed in society. How do you miss such a thing?”
Thambo confirmed that Hillary had withdrawn money from her bank account prior to her murder. He said they needed more time to investigate the nature of the transactions.
Hillary had allegedly sent R 1,300 to herself as cash-sends and e-wallets a few hours before she was killed.
However, the EFF believe the motive for her death could not have merely been over such a small amount.
Hillary, the daughter of former EFF Secretary-General, Godrich Gardee, will be laid to rest over the weekend, once her body is released to her family.
The family offered a reward of R100 000 for her safe return after she went missing at a supermarket in Nelspruit on Friday, 29 April.
