Aldrin Sampear, a well-known South African journalist, who recently resigned from his position at Newzroom Afrika has taken up a new role within the government’s Department of Tourism.

Award-winning journalist and broadcaster Aldrin Sampear has left his post at Newzroom Afrika to take on a new role within the Department of Tourism.
Sampear, who co-anchored the popular AM Report, announced his departure live on air last week, describing the move as a “pause” in his broadcasting career.
Sampear’s decision to join the government, where he will serve under Minister Patricia De Lille, is reportedly motivated by a desire to contribute to South Africa in a new capacity.
His new position is seen as a strategic move to support the government’s efforts to revitalise the tourism sector, a key focus for the nation’s post-pandemic economic recovery.
“I have joined the Department of Tourism under the leadership of Minister Patricia De Lille. This beautiful nation has done so much for me. I’m indebted. State policies like social grants and free primary healthcare, helped pull me out of poverty and journalism was the vehicle.
Kasie FM, my first broadcasting home was itself supported by a state agency, the MDDA. My life is a testimony of God’s love for us and now I get to say THANK YOU in a BIG WAY and help pull more people up with me.” wrote Sampear on X (formerly known as Twitter.)

The announcement follows a period of public scrutiny for Sampear, who was suspended earlier this year following a road rage incident. He has since apologised for the event.
The news of his departure has been met with a mix of reactions from the public, with many social media users commending his resilience and wishing him well in his new chapter.
