The mother of an 8-year old boy who was attacked with a razor to his neck by a fellow learner in Cape Town, is calling for further action to be taken by the school.
Surviving the incident, which occurred in March, the 8-year old Stephen Road Primary learner still has the scar across his neck from being sliced with the razor.
His mom says her son was attacked by a fellow Grade 3 learner, with a box-cutter while standing in line to wash his hands.
According to the scarred boy’s mom, the incident took place in the absence of a teacher, but she is convinced the attack was premeditated.
Speaking to EWN, the boy’s mother says her son didn’t feel any pain when he was cut across the neck, but he was terrified when he saw his blood.
“This child could have killed my son as he was sliced on the left side of his neck. If the box-cutter razor was sharper and went deeper, my son could have died.
I believe he is being bullied by the same boy or that there was a fight the previous week which then turned into this violent attack and maybe that is why he was too afraid to report him.”
The boy’s mother doesn’t feel the school is doing enough to protect her son, and says after a month, the school only called both parents on Wednesday, 26 April to attend a disciplinary hearing.
“I’m not really satisfied because the school is not serious about expelling this child. For me, it’s like he’s going to get away with everything because he’s still a child.”
