French side Paris Saint-Germain has suspended Lionel Messi for two weeks after the player went on a personal trip to Saudi Arabia without asking for permission.
In addition to this, Messi has been suspended for two games and fined two weeks’ wages.
Messi was pictured in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Monday with his family. The 35-year-old serves as a tourism ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
This comes after reports that Messi, whose two-year deal with PSG ends this season, has been flirting with a few Saudi clubs and former team FC Barcelona.
Sources close to PSG are saying that the club wants to send a message to all players that no one is bigger than the club. It is believed that the relationship between PSG and Messi is “broken” at this stage.
