Dr Nandipha Magudumana and two other co-accused in Thabo Bester’s escape from Mangaung Correctional Center, are set to appear for bail on Wednesday, 03 May.
The doctor, a G4S prison warden, Senohe Matsoara, as well as Tebogo Lipholo, a CCTV technician have all been linked to assisting the convicted rapist and murderer with his brazen prison escape.
Bester faked his death in a prison fire in May 2022, and fled the country with Dr Nandipha, who is being accused of signing out multiple corpses from mortuaries in Bloemfontein to carry out the escape.
The burnt body that was discovered in Bester’s prison cell, has been identified as Katlego Bereng, who was 31-years old.
Bereng’s family have pleaded with the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court to deny Dr Nandipha and her co-accused bail.
Speaking to media outside the court, a family member of Bereng said they were just praying for justice.
“All we are expecting is justice to be done. Whoever has been involved in Katlego’s death can come to us and say this was our target and these are the reasons. We are asking ourselves, ‘Why us?’
As a family, we trust and we are putting our hope in the investigations that are ongoing. We are told the Department of Health is also conducting its own investigations, so we are very hopeful.”

Dr Nandipha’s father, 65-year old Zolile Sekeleni was granted bail at their previous court appearance on 17 April.
Sekeleni is set to appear back in court on 16 May.
Dr Nandipha faces charges of murder, aiding the escape of a prisoner, defeating the ends of justice, violation of bodies and fraud.
