Five celebrities who have spent over R1-million on a car

By Tamlyn Canham

You will need to pick your jaw up off the floor when you find out how much some of South Africa’s biggest stars are willing to spend on a car.

Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Rolls-Royce are just some of the car brands Mzansi celebrities love.

They all come with a hefty price tag!

Here’s a look at five celebrities who forked out over a million “randelas” on a brand new ride.

Somizi

It is no secret that Somizi Mhlongo is a lover of nice things. The ‘Idols SA’ judge spares no expense when it comes to his flamboyant lifestyle. He has forked thousands of rands to get his hands on Louis Vuitton everything.

Somizi is also willing to spend a pretty penny on luxury cars. He previously owned a BMW i8, which retailed for around R2-million at the time. He reportedly had to sell the vehicle in 2017 to help pay a hefty SARS bill.

These days you will spot Somgaga driving around in a Mercedes-Benz G350d aka a G-Wagon. He bought the R1.5-million ride in 2016. In 2020, Somizi shared a picture of himself chilling in a Lamborghini Urus.

The car retails for between R3.5-million and R5-million. It’s unclear if he owns the vehicle, but we would not be surprised if the Louis Vuitton Don himself added the Italian roadster to his collection.

Boity

Boity has several business ventures under her belt, so it should come as no surprise that the rapper has enough spare change to afford a fancy ride. The 31-year-old bought herself a R2.5-million Lumma Range Rover Sports V8 in 2019.

“My incredible baby is finally here! Welcome home, Esther,” she wrote on Instagram.

Cassper Nyovest

Why own one Bentley when you can own two? Cassper Nyovest works hard, plays hard, and spends hard.

The ‘Tito Mboweni’ hitmaker spoiled himself by customising his Mansory Bentley Continental GT V8 for his 30th birthday last year.

The Bentley has a R3-million-plus price tag.

Bonang Matheba

While some people’s boyfriends were buying them roses for Valentine’s Day, Bonang was treating herself to a brand new Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG.

“… bought myself a Valentine’s Day gift. Single girl problems,” she wrote in 2015. Fast forward to 2021, and Bonang’s luxury car collection now includes a G-Wagon.

Shauwn Mkhize

Durban businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize’s luxury car collection is unmatched. The ‘KwaMam’Mkhize’ reality star owns an Aston Martin, Cayenne Turbo, Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, a Maserati, and Rolls-Royce Ghost, that retails for around R4.80-million.

Shauwn recently spoiled herself with one of the most expensive SUVs in South Africa – a Rolls-Royce Black Badge Cullinan. The vehicle is reportedly worth a cool R16-million!
