Last month, various reports suggested that SARS (South African Revenue Services) repossessed some of Dr Malinga’s valuable possessions to auction after he defaulted on payments owed in tax.
Speaking to Mac G’s podcast recently, Dr Malinga confirmed that the reports are true.
“SARS came to my house that I bought cash. They took my furniture and car.”
The Via Orlando singer revealed that he has struggled to keep up with payments because he hasn’t been getting bookings.
“I remember SARS called me many years ago to tell time that I owe them R2.1 million (sighs).”
Malinga says he paid R1 million and kept on paying what was remaining until Covid hit. “You know in music, you depend on being booked and there was Covid.”
The musician notes that he reached out to various people for help including Minister Nathi Mthethwa to no success.
“I don’t have money, I’m not being booked, I’m not trending. I can’t force people to book me.”
