A young pupil in KwaZulu-Natal has tragically lost her life after being struck by a heavy vehicle on her morning commute to school, prompting an outpouring of grief and calls for support.
The KwaZulu-Natal department of education has confirmed the death of Grade 8 pupil Ngobese Fezile, who was struck by a 10-ton truck on Tuesday morning. School authorities promptly alerted local police, the circuit manager, and the school governing body, while Fezile’s parents rushed to the accident scene.
The tragedy has left a heavy emotional shadow over the school community. In response to the shock experienced by students and teachers, academic assessments have been temporarily put on hold to make way for professional psychosocial support and counselling services.
