‘She loved spending quality time with her 8-year-old daughter and hitting the road’

Tsontso has been described as a bubbly family woman who loved road running, singing in her church choir, and spending quality time with her eight-year-old daughter.

The family of Elizabeth Tsontso Moselakgomo is mourning the tragic loss of the woman they describe as the glue of their family.

The 38-year-old runner’s remains were identified at a Germiston mortuary on Monday, 14 September 2026.

Moselakgomo was reported missing last week by members of her family after she failed to return home from her evening run.

Her death has not only devastated her family but sent shockwaves across the country, reminding South Africans yet again that women’s lives are in danger.

Moselakgomo’s uncle, Andries Moraka Motlaila, described her as a church-going woman who preferred spending most of her time indoors but enjoyed taking part in activities she loved.

He described the moment the family entered the mortuary to identify her remains as extremely difficult.

“The moment we entered the mortuary was a very difficult moment for us as a family, as you all know that yesterday, there was an attempt by the family to go in there. Today was very difficult, but the authorities really helped us through the situation until we identified the body positively so”.

Motlaila says the family is now waiting for the post-mortem before they can begin their own preparations for the burial.

“Elizabeth was a family lady, very bubbly and overall she loved road running. She used to participate in marathons. Besides that she was also in a choir at her church and she also spent quality time with her 8-year-old daughter.”

Moselakgomo’s body was found behind a hotel in Rhodesfield, Kempton Park, on Saturday, after she had been missing for a few days.

She was among several women whose bodies have been discovered in and around Ekurhuleni in recent weeks, while a fifth woman’s body was discovered in Olifantsfontein on Monday.

A sixth woman’s body was also found on Tuesday morning in KwaThema, Springs.

One suspect has been arrested in connection with the first body discovered in July and remains in custody.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths and whether the cases are connected.

    • regulate, in harmony with international standards, the processing of personal information by public and private bodies in a manner that gives effect to the right to privacy subject to justifiable limitations that are aimed at protecting other rights and important interests,
    1. Definitions and Interpretation

    1.1.“Personal Information” means information relating to an identifiable, living, natural person and where it is applicable, identifiable, existing juristic person, including all information as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. 

    1.2  Parliament assented to POPIA on 19 November 2013. The commencement date of section 1, Part A of Chapter 5, section 112 and section 113 was 11 April 2014. The commencement date of the other sections was 1 July 2020 (with the exception of section 110 and 114(4). The President of South Africa has proclaimed the POPI commencement date to be 1 July 2020.

     
    1.3. “Processing” means the creation, generation, communication, storage, destruction of personal information as more fully defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.  

    1.4. “You” or the “user” means any person who accesses and browses this website for any purpose. 

    1.4. “Website” means the website of the KAYA 959 at URL www.kaya959.co.za or such other URL as KAYA 959 may choose from time to time.   

    1. Status and Amendments
