The Political Killings Task Team in KwaZulu-Natal has made another breakthrough with the arrest of two men linked to the murder of Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu.
Ndlovu was gunned down at his home in Mpophomeni, Howick, in December 2023.
The suspects, aged 56 and 26, were arrested on Tuesday. It is alleged that the 26-year-old coordinated the killing while serving time at the Pietermaritzburg Prison.
National Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the pair will appear before the Howick Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 31 July 2025.
“They will join the two suspects who were previously arrested and charged for the murder. They will face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” said Mathe.
At the time of his death, Councillor Ndlovu was serving in the Umgeni Local Municipality.
The arrests come shortly after the same task team apprehended an alleged mastermind behind the 2017 murder of former ANC Youth League Secretary General Sindiso Magaqa, who was shot outside a tuckshop in uMzimkhulu.
Both these arrests come weeks after the KZN police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, made explosive allegations implicating Politicians and Top Cop officials.
