On Friday’s Open Line on Siz The World, a listener followed up on Sizwe Dhlomo’s recent post on X, in which he suggested that selling fruit is a great business to start.
Sizwe stood by his statement, saying that if he were to wake up tomorrow with nothing, he would begin selling fruit.
“This is under the assumption that I am healthy and able to manage the stall myself. I would sell fruit,” he said, adding that one could start with as little as R500.
“Go buy fruit and find a good location. Sell oranges, apples, and plums. The profit margins are no less than 40 percent when you’re selling fruit.”
However, he also highlighted the risks associated with cash-based businesses.
“Because it’s a cash business, there is always the possibility that you might get robbed. But if that doesn’t happen, it’s a great way to make money. You can make back the R500 you invested in about two days,” he said.
