Sizwe Dhlomo recently revealed that he had a spirited debate with friends about the growing use of artificial intelligence.
When asked whether he had ever used ChatGPT, his answer was a firm no.
He explained that he views the use of AI as a form of “cheating,” arguing that it allows people to speak on subjects they don’t truly understand.
Sizwe elaborated, saying that reading a book offers a deeper understanding of a topic, which is essential for genuine knowledge.
“Based on that understanding, you can then derive the answer. Joy is derived in determining the answer. Even in mathematics, the proof is in the pudding. The beauty lies in working out the solution,” he said.
Dhlomo went on to say, “How I engage with a person is by observing how they reason with the information they already have. That’s why I feel like ChatGPT is a cheat.”
He further explained, “When you have an academic discussion, there are fundamentals we must abide by and agree upon. So, if you’ve studied a subject properly, you’ll know those fundamentals.”
The Siz The World host expressed concern that many people using ChatGPT haven’t taken the time to learn those foundational principles.
The rest of the team also shared their views on AI, and invited listeners to weigh in with their own thoughts.
