The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced that Royal AM Football Club will no longer participate in the Nedbank Cup competition this season.
The decision was made following a meeting of the NSL Executive Committee on Monday, where further representations from the Curator and Royal AM’s management were reviewed.
In a statement, the PSL confirmed that the decision was reached in the interest of time and with the concurrence of both Royal AM and the Curator. As a result, the Nedbank Cup fixture between Milford FC and Sekhukhune United FC has been rescheduled for 15:00 on Sunday, 2 March 2025, at Princess Magogo Stadium.
This development comes after the PSL suspended all matches involving Royal AM in January 2025. On 9 January, the club informed the league that it could not fulfil its fixture against Chippa United FC on 11 January, citing difficulties arising from the appointment of a Curator.
The situation took a sombre turn on 17 February when sports broadcaster Andile Ncube tweeted about the potential sale of Royal AM. “A sad day for our football. After months of speculation, it’s done. SARS have won, and Royal AM will be sold. Cry, my beloved PSL,” his post read.
Despite Ncube’s announcement, there has been no official communication from Royal AM regarding the sale of the club.
