President of the Royal AM Football Club, Shauwn Mkhize aka MaMkhize, has acknowledged the non-payment of her team’s salaries.
This comes after reports that Royal AM failed to honour their Betway premiership match against Chippa United due to unpaid December salaries.
In a statement released on Wednesday, MaMkhize apologised to those affected and assured stakeholders that she is committed to resolving the matter.
“Royal AM Football Club wishes to address the unfortunate situation regarding the non-payment of salaries for December 2023, affecting our valued players, technical team, and staff. We acknowledge the hardship this has caused and extend our heartfelt apologies to those impacted, including their families,” MaMkhize said in the statement.
She also confirmed that the club is under curatorship due to a preservation order obtained by the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
“As many are aware, the club is currently under curatorship following a preservation order obtained by SARS. While this has resulted in the temporary appointment of a curator, Mr Jaco Venter, to oversee the club’s assets and operations, we want to assure all stakeholders that Royal AM remains committed to resolving this matter as swiftly as possible,” the statement continues.
In November 2024, armed police and SARS officials raided multiple properties belonging to MaMkhize in a bid to recoup her R40-million tax debt.
SABC Sport reports that Royal AM also owe striker Samir Nurkovic R15-million and SARS could begin the process of liquidating the club as a result of her debt.
