Popular traditional healer, Gogo Maweni, recently engaged in an eye-opening conversation with Bonolo BeeSting on The Hive, sharing insights into her unique spiritual journey. In this exclusive interview, Maweni offered a glimpse into her world and her profound connection with snakes, among other intriguing revelations.
“I love snakes, and I almost got another one the other day. I am ten years into my traditional journey, and I am still finding things out. People think once you are done with traditional school, you’re back home and that’s it, but it’s actually not. That was just to get the right of passage, so I am still on my journey of finding out what was expected of me by my ancestors,” she said.
“My love of snakes came later. All the animals that I am attracted to are attached to my ancestors. I started dreaming of specific snakes, which I started looking for. It took me a while to be able to get some of them. I think it proves the bond that I have with my ancestors.”

However, Maweni’s path was not without its struggles. Initially, she harboured misconceptions about traditional healers, equating them with “illiteracy.” These misconceptions stemmed from her childhood fear of her uncle, who was also a traditional healer. Over time, she realized her unique calling, recognizing that there was something “special” within her.
In a surprising turn, Maweni attempted to evade her calling by moving to New York. Yet, the challenges she faced only deepened her connection to her ancestral roots.
