Gogo Maweni has a zero tolerance approach to women impersonating her and using her name to make money and scam others.
The traditional healer recently confronted two women who opened bank accounts using her sangoma name, and said she would be opening charges against them.
In videos which were shared to her social media, Gogo Maweni, whose real name is Makgotso Lee-Anne Mokopo, was furious at the audacity of two women who were “stealing her business”, and making money by pretending to be her.
One of the women, had a store full of Gogo Maweni’s products which she was reselling at a slightly marked up cost.
Maweni said the woman bought her products in bulk and sent her customers, a bank account that was set up in her own trading name.
“I am tired of people coming here, and stealing my money, stealing people’s money, by pretending to be me.
I am going to open a case against you. Why are you doing this?
Why are you lying to people? You are another scammer.”
Gogo Maweni tells the women that they are committing theft and fraud by impersonating her to make a profit.
One of the women apologises to Maweni and asks for her forgiveness.
In the second confrontation, Maweni was angry, and shouted at the woman impersonating her to explain why she is using her name.
“Hello Gogo Maweni, how are you? How are you Gogo Maweni? You’re telling people you’re me right?
You even opened a Capitec account in my name, that people are making payment to. I am going to the police.”
Maweni said she was tired of women scammers and they needed to be exposed.
