From social media hiking diaries to the majestic heights of Mount Kilimanjaro, Gugulethu Mfuphi’s expedition was a testament to determination, unity, and empowerment. Alongside the Imbumba Foundation Trust and an inspiring group of women from South32 mining company, Senzi Nhleko, Keitumetse Moncho, Magda Coetzee, Ntombozuko Willie, Hayley Barrett, Hannelie Jordaan, Fanele Mkhize, and Elsa Noordally, Gugu successfully summited Kilimanjaro on Women’s Day, commemorating their mission to support the Caring4Girls programme.
The journey began with surprise messages of encouragement orchestrated by Kaya 959’s Thomas and Skhumba, reaffirming the close bond of the Kaya 959 family.
As Gugu and her team reached Kibo Huts on Tuesday, August 8, they stood ready to conquer the summit. On Women’s Day, their triumph resonated deeply, inspiring others to reach for their goals and make a difference
All nine women summited on the 9th of August commemorating Women’s Day in South Africa. From what I’ve been told this is the first time , since the start of the expedition that Imbumba Foundation has had a 100% summit success rate where all participants successfully reach the summit and down again.

The impact of this remarkable expedition continues through the funds raised for the Imbumba Foundation Trust Caring4Girls programme, leaving an enduring legacy of positive change. Gugu and her fellow adventurers, with their shared determination and solidarity, remind us that together, we can achieve the extraordinary.
Gugu shares her adventure with you with a few pictures from the expedition:

We don’t climb mountains to die. We climb mountains to live…we touch the sky ya’ll!
