The Luthando App has been two-years in the making, and was developed to help parents or guardians teach children different languages with ease, and from an early age.
10-year old Luthando Nkomo was curious about the languages his father would speak at home, and would often ask him to explain certain words and phrases to him.
After a while, Luthando’s father, Lot Nkomo grew tired of repeating himself and thanks to Covid-19 decided to create a language learning app, together with his son.
Luthando shares with Gugulethu Mfuphi on Kaya Biz, that the app came in handy for him, especially when his dad had to travel for work, and the language loving boy wanted to learn Afrikaans and Sesotho.
“I have to give credit to Covid-19 because I had time to fully work on the app without distractions. As parents, we tend to be so busy with work, and earning a living just to support our family that we sometimes don’t have the time to teach our kids the things that are important to us.
Like home languages, especially if they’re in a school with a different first language, it can be difficult to start teaching them a vernacular language.
I’m lucky in that I speak many languages, and Luthando’s curiosity to learn these languages is why we worked on developing the language learning Luthando App.”
The Luthando App is a comprehensive language learning platform that aims to make language learning easy, fun and engaging for children and adults of all ages.
Designed to cater to different learning styles and preferences, the app offer an immersive language learning experience that goes beyond just teaching grammar and vocabulary.
One of the unique features of the app is the native stories section, where learners can read and listen to stories in the target language.
