Striking NEHAWU workers manhandle a doctor who was treating patients amid the ongoing strike over wage disputes.
The unidentified doctor was accosted by the disgruntled workers in her rooms after she had consulted with patients.
In a video clip that is quickly going viral, the female doctor can be seen clinging onto her desk, while male NEHAWU workers attempt to carry her out of her consultation room.
The doctor tries to gather her patient files, while she is being told to get out. Visibly shaken, the doctor tells the striking workers she will leave on her own.
One of the NEHAWU members tries to grab the doctor’s phone from her before the video cuts.
The origin of the video is unknown at this point.
NEHAWU members have made it clear that they are unphased by government’s threats of legal action. This after Health Minister Joe Phaahla said the Department is seeking legal interventions for the deaths of four patients due to the strike.
On Thursday, 09 March, Phaahla addressed media blaming the deaths of the four patients on the striking workers who are compromising the country’s public healthcare.
But, the workers say they will not be moved by legal threats because government could end the strike by giving into their demands.
NEHAWU will not settle for anything other than a 10% wage increase, while government has tabled a 4.7% offer.
