Charlotte Maxeke Hospital has been forced to cancel 61 elective C-sections due to the ongoing NEHAWU strike.
Health Minister Joe Phaahla, on Thursday, 09 March briefed media over the severe consequences the strike is having on public health care throughout the country.
The Minister says four people have died as a result of the strike which is now on its fourth day.
One of the public facilities that is affected by the strike is Charlotte Maxeke, where the operating theatres and oncology services in particular are heavily affected.
Hospital CEO Gladys Bogoshi says of the 33 operating theatres, only 2 are able to function.
The government has proposed a 4.7% pay increase, but the disgruntled public employees demand a 10% pay rise.
