The South African weather service has issued a warning to residents in Gauteng with disruptive rains expected throughout the province on Wednesday.
Posing a potential for localised flooding and flash floods, motorists are urged to exercise caution.
The Department of Water and Sanitation have also warned about increased overflow from the Vaal dam.
Water levels climbed to 110% on Tuesday morning and communities that are located downstream are cautioned that flooding is likely.
The warning comes after flooding in KZN and parts of Johannesburg earlier this week.
In 2016, flash floods in Johannesburg claimed the lives of 6 people.
Towards the end of 2021, flooding in Tshwane and Johannesburg led to families being evacuated after the Jukskei river overflowed.
Execessive amounts of summer rains have placed South Africa on high alert.
The predictions for rainfall are likely to continue until May 2022.
While the rains are good to ease fears of drought, there are concerns that more flooding will occur along the Vaal and Orange river.
