Torrential rains in the Eastern Cape since Saturday has brought devastation as flooding claims 6 lives.
Heavy rains have cause flash flooding, particularly affecting low-lying and informal settlements in the region.
Hundreds of informal homes were washed away during the floods in Mdtansane and Duncan Village overnight.
The floods claimed 6 lives, including a police diver who was swept away by a strong current while rescuing a farmer.
Several roads R61 between Cofimvaba and Ngcobo were damaged, according to Arrive Alive.
Eastern Cape Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs(CoGTA) MEC Xolile Nqatha said R41 million was allocated to the OR Tambo District Municipality to assist the community when such natural disasters occur.
However, he claims the money was used to help those affected by storms last year.
According to Nqatha, CoGTA is investigating what happened to the money. He was speaking to Newzroom Afrika.
