Three Netball South Africa players and an official were killed in a bus crash in the Eastern Cape on Sunday morning.
At least 25 others were injured in the crash.
The team confirmed that the players were on their way to Cape Town for the 2021 SPAR National Championships.
According to Netball SA, an accident happened on Sunday in Aberdeen, Eastern Cape around 4am.
Netball SA President, Cecilia Molokwane, says they are deeply saddened by the news.
“Losing lives is never an easy thing to deal with. We are devastated by the news and we would like to send our deepest, sincere and heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones. We are all in mourning,” she said.
Molokwane they are all heartbroken following the crash.

MEC calls for report
MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture in the Eastern Cape, Fezeka Nkomonye went to the scene of the crash. She was joined by Eastern Cape Netball President, Nompumelelo Javu.
“We can confirm that there have been four fatalities and we are in the process of informing families. This is not how we wanted to kickstart the tournament or end the year, however, we find ourselves in this situation.
“These are trying times and we request a bit of privacy and space to handle this matter. We will liaise with Netball South Africa, and they will communicate accordingly,” Javu said.
MEC Nkomonye has requested a full report on the accident as soon as possible. She also indicated that she is devastated by the loss of life.
