British boxing legend Tyson Fury has made a surprising announcement, declaring his retirement from the sport.
Fury broke the news on Instagram just two days after promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that Wembley Stadium had been reserved for a potential summer showdown between Fury and Anthony Joshua.
“I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing,” he stated on Instagram.”It’s been a blast. I have loved every single minute of it, and I’ll end with this—Dick Turpin wore a mask!”
This isn’t the first time the 36-year-old has announced his retirement. In 2022, after defeating Dillian Whyte, Fury claimed he would be hanging up his gloves. However, just six months later, he returned to the ring for a bout against Derek Chisora.
Most recently, on 21 December 2024, Fury faced Oleksandr Usyk in a highly anticipated rematch for the undisputed heavyweight championship at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In a closely contested battle, Usyk secured victory by unanimous decision.
Following the fight, Fury expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome.
Whether this retirement will be permanent remains to be seen, but there is no denying that Tyson Fury is one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of his generation. His impressive professional record stands at 34 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw.
