The first wife of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela, has reportedly filed an urgent court interdict to stop her husband’s upcoming wedding.
In the court papers posted by journalist Siphamandla Goge on X, Mayisela argues that the king cannot enter into any type of marriage while he is still in a civil union with her.
“I further confirm that my husband has begun making arrangements to marry the said woman and has even set a date for the said wedding ceremony and/or marriage. Please see an invitation letter referring to the said marriage marked annexure “QN2”. A video announcing the marriage and issuing an invite will be made available to the honourable court
“I humbly submit that the responded herein cannot enter into (a) a civil marriage and (b) a customary marriage whilst our civil marriage still subsists,” she said in the application.
Mayisela notes that although a meeting had been set up to discuss the marriage, it was postponed to February which will be after the marriage has taken place.
She also acknowledged that the king has indeed filed for a divorce. A decision which has been heavily criticised by the Zulu royal family.
“I confirm also that the Respondent has served me with divorce papers which were lodged in this honourable court. The Respondent wishes to get married whilst our marriage still subsist with a pending divorce,” the application reads.
This comes after Misuzulu announced that he will formally marry his third wife, Nomzamo Yeni, in a traditional Shembe Church wedding ceremony (Umgcagco) on Sunday, 26 January.
