Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has confirmed his departure from the South African national team, drawing the curtain on a highly successful five-year tenure.
The 74-year-old Belgian veteran revealed his decision to step down during an interview with the Belgian publication Voetbalnieuws.
Appointed in June 2021, Broos leaves office as the longest-serving manager in Bafana Bafana history.
He successfully revitalised the squad, transforming them into a formidable force on the continent.
His historic run culminated at the recent 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he guided South Africa past the group stage for the very first time.
He also secured two consecutive Africa Cup of Nations qualifications, famously winning a bronze medal at the 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast.
SAFA must now accelerate its search for a successor before the 2027 Afcon qualifiers kick off in September.
Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie has already voiced his support for Pitso Mosimane to take over the mantle.
