Sad news for peanut butter lovers as Woolworths SA has issued a recall on its peanut butter ice cream with immediate effect.
This is due to peanut butter ice cream containing higher than regulated levels of Aflatoxin.
Earlier this month a number of peanut butter products were recalled from shelves for high levels of Aflatoxin.
On Friday, 23 February Woolworths SA issued a statement clarifying that the rest of the brands’ peanut butter products were safe for consumption.
“Woolworths is recalling peanut butter dairy ice cream with immediate effect.
Only our peanut butter ice cream is being recalled. All other Woolworths products containing peanut butter, including our rane of peanut butter remains 100% safe for consumption.”
Aflatoxin is naturally occurring and must be consumed in very high quantities to be toxic to humans.
The product recall on its peanut butter dairy ice cream comes after Woolworths systematically assessed all its peanut butter products following the recall of other products that contained peanut butter.
This was done as a precautionary measure to ensure all the retailers’ products meet quality standards.
Customers who have purchased this product may return it to their local Woolworths store for a full refund.
