KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has clarified that the two South African men arrested in eSwatini are not linked to the AKA murder investigation.
This after the Times of eSwatini reported the arrest of two brothers aged 28 and 29-years who hail from Durban, KZN who are reportedly wanted for the murder of a South African musician and three taxi owners.
It is suspected that the brothers fled South Africa after committing the crimes, and found a place to rent in eSwatini which they used as a hideout.
In the article by the publication, details of slain South African rapper, Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibs” Motsoane’s murders were highlighted, however KZN police have said that the two men who are awaiting extradition back to South Africa are wanted for another murder.
“Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi has noted media reports coming from our neighbouring country, eSwatini concerning the pending extradition of two suspects who were arrested in that country.
The Provincial Commissioner wishes to place it on record that the suspects in question will be coming back to South Africa to face a case of murder and attempted murder where a man, who was a passenger in a vehicle was shot and killed in Berea on 06 March 2023.
The driver of the vehicle survived the shooting and managed to drive to a fuel station in Berea where she sought assistance. Investigation into that particular case pointed to the suspects who were traced and found to be hiding in eSwatini.”
Developments in AKA and Tibs murder case will be communicated
Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi reiterated that any development in the AKA case which has garnered huge public interest will be timeously communicated with the concerned families first and then the public, through the media.
“Investigations into that particular matter is at a sensitive stage and the police do not wish to communicate any information that may compromise the investigation process.
The AKA and Tibs murder case is a complex one and there was and still are tons of evidential information to be analyzed and processed.
This is a prosecution-led investigation and when the police have tied all the loose ends and covered all the loopholes, an announcement into the investigation and the progress thereof will be communicated.”
