The South African Police Service (SAPS) in KwaZulu-Natal have shared an update on Kiernan “AKA” Forbes’ murder, confirming that the firearm used to murder the rapper and his friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, has been identified.
This comes a few days after police said that those responsible for the killings, were also identified, noting that there had been a significant breakthrough in the case.
KZN Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says police have done everything possible to crack down on this case, and he doesn’t want to be questioned on the matter again.
“We have positively identified one firearm that was used to shoot and kill Mr Forbes. We have also identified few a few individuals, who maybe after discussing with the NPA (National Prosecuting Authority), we might then start bringing them in.
As I said previously, it is an investigation we don’t want to rush, that’s why after collecting whatever evidence we have, we will discuss with the NPA because we don’t work alone.
Once we have collected everything, and the NPA is satisfied that we have everything to put together a solid case to prosecute successfully, only then can we make arrests, lay charges, and pursue a case.
At this point, we are still investigating.”

Apart from identifying the firearm, retrieving a number of cellphones, and interviewing a few individuals in relation to the murders of both AKA and Tibz, police have also identified the vehicles that were used by the gunmen.
Mkhwanazi said while there has been a number of breakthroughs in the case, there is still much work to be done before the investigation is concluded.
