The US Coast Guard has confirmed that the Titan submersible imploded due to a loss of chamber pressure, killing all 5 occupants instantly.
This after a massive international rescue mission to find the missing submersible commenced from Sunday, 18 June.
Five men embarked on a risky expedition to view the Titanic wreckage at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean, paying the deep sea diving company, OceanGate $250 000 each for this once in a lifetime experience.
However, the men were reportedly warned that the OceanGate sub, named the Titan was not certified by any regulatory bodies, and there were no guarantees that the men would make it out alive.
While rescue teams raced against the clock to locate the Titan before on-board oxygen supply ran out, all 5 occupants were reportedly dead shortly after the sub went missing on Sunday.
Oxygen on the Titan was expected to run out on Thursday, 22 June.
It is estimated that the implosion occurred when the Titan lost communication with its mothership, 2-hours into its descent into the Atlantic.
A Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) which was sent down to the last known location of the Titan, discovered debris from the sub approximately 1 600 ft (487 meters) away from the bow of the Titanic wreckage.
Apart from finding the tail-cone of the Titan, the ROV also found other debris consistent with the significant loss of pressure in the chamber.
The US Coast Guard notified all family members that all 5 occupants did not survive.
