The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of extremely hot conditions over the province from Tuesday, 21 November, extending until Friday, 24 November.
Temperatures for Gauteng and Pretoria are expected to reach highs over 30º C, with intense heat conditions expected throughout the week.
While the weather service says isolated evening showers are expected to bring relief on some days this week, heatstroke and dehydration are a concern.
Residents in Johannesburg and Pretoria are advised to stay out of the sun between 11h00 and 15h00, when the sun is at its harshest.
Those working outdoors should try to stay in cool, shady areas to avoid heat cramps, heatstroke and heat exhaustion.
