5 years suspended jail sentence with R100 000 fine for Thembinkosi Lorch.
Thembinkosi Lorch, an Orlando Pirates player, was fined R100,000 and given a suspended jail sentence for assaulting his girlfriend.
He was ordered to pay R100 000 to the gender-based violence group, People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) and will pay the first R50 000 on Tuesday and is expected to pay R10 000 every month.
Following a few delays, Lorch was given a three-year suspended jail sentence after being found guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in June for an incident involving his ex-girlfriend Fundiswa Nokuphiwa Mathithibala in 2020.
According to the Firearms Control Act, Lorch, who showed up in the Randburg magistrate’s court on Tuesday morning, was also deemed unfit to carry a gun.
He was convicted of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in June by the same court where he had strangled and struck his girlfriend three years prior.
The court also ruled that Lorch should not be found guilty of assault with intent to cause great bodily harm during the five years that are suspended.
