The Stellenbosch University student who had his belongings urinated on by white student, Theuns Du Toit will not be pressing charges.
This after the university took action by suspending the culprit for his racially-motivated behaviour.
Babalo Ndwayana, a first-year student at the university said he will forgive Du Toit for violating his personal space.
A majority of South Africans, including celebrities, political parties and student bodies who have called for Du Toit’s expulsion and for charges to be laid.
Students who staged a protest at the university on Monday, 16 May, spoke out about this not being the first racially-charged incident at the Huis Marais residence at the Stellenbosch institution.
Whilst Ndwayana will not be pressing charges against Theuns Du Toit, he feels a suspension is too light an action and he would like his perpetrator to be expelled.
Speaking to media, the Agricultural Business Management student, said he felt the incident had violated his privacy and dignity.
Amongst the possessions which were defiled by Du Toit were a laptop, books and the desk Ndwayana used to study on.
When he asked Du Toit why he was peeing on his stuff, the response he received was, “This is what we do to black boys.”
The incident has affected Ndwayana’s preparation for his mid-year exams which commence in a week.
According to reports, the university is assisting him to get a replacement laptop and other study needs he has.
Ndwayana’s family said their son was excited to have been chosen to study at the prestigious institution but they now fear for his safety.
