A 14-year old boy was allegedly beaten up at an Eastern Cape school by a parent who accused the student of being a thief.
The boy who was accused of stealing a cellphone is reportedly severely injured and unable to go to school.
His mother shared with the school in Mthatha that her son now wants to drop out of school because they are afraid he will be targeted and bullied further.
“A parent beat my son up at school. He was dragged out of the school premises. The parent said my son had stolen a cellphone.
He’s injured and cannot go to school. He says he doesn’t want to go back to school because the other learners will call him a thief.”

Meanwhile, the Eastern Cape Department of Education has condemned the actions of the parent as unacceptable.
“Conversations around school safety will need to addressed as this should have never happened. There are ways of handling situations like this and the parent acted inappropriately, which is completely unacceptable.”
The boy’s family have opened a case of assault and are hoping the parent is held accountable for his actions.
The department of education will revisit school safety measures that are aimed at protecting both students and staff to prevent further incidents like this from occurring.
