The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) says it is aware of a viral video that captured an apparent case of police brutality over the weekend.
An investigation is underway after two SAPS officers were caught on camera assaulting an unarmed man in Fish Hoek.
The unidentified man does not fight back as one of the officers uses his baton repeatedly striking the man, while the other grabs the man by his throat.
It is alleged the man had called police for assistance with a missing person’s report. He is heard towards the end of the video explaining that he had called police for help as his girlfriend is missing.
According to reports, when police arrived, an altercation ensued and officers accused the man of hurling insults at them.
The man who reportedly resides in Emerald Crescent has since been arrested but eyewitnesses say police did not give him a reason for his arrest.
