An Egyptian farmer has been ordered to pay his estranged wife R77 120 a month in maintenance, up from the R2 000 he provided at the outset of the proceedings before the Gauteng High Court.
The couple, who have a little daughter and an adult son, have been living apart since November of last year when the lady abandoned the family home after a turbulent marriage marked by abuse, intimidation, and violence.
According to the court papers shared by the Gauteng High Court, the woman, is a cancer survivor, who has had to rely on her spouse for financial support.
The parties are married out of community of property, including accruals.

While the man owns a seven-hectare working farm, has multiple income streams, and earns money from rental properties in Egypt, his property portfolio is estimated to be worth R25 million.
The family took at least two annual abroad excursions, and their monthly home budget was around R85 000, which included a four-person staff consisting of a chef, two bodyguards, a gardener, and a domestic servant.
According to the court judgement order, this is a breakdown of the expense he has to pay.
1.1. Maintenance for herself R20 000 per month
1.2. Maintenance for the minor child R15 000 per month
1.3. An amount of R9 625 per month for medical aid premiums for the entire family
1.4. An amount of R7 495 per month being household costs
1.5. An amount of R15 000 for accommodation costs for the applicant and the minor child
1.6. An amount of R10 000 as a contribution toward costs, payable within 10 days of this order.
