Load shedding to alternate between Stages 4 and 5.
As a result of generating unit failures and delays in their return to service at power plants, Eskom is anticipated to impose Stages 4 and 5 load shedding up until further notice.
Stage 5 will be implemented between 4pm and 5am, while Stage 4 will start at 4pm on Tuesday and run every day between 5am and 4pm.
At least four additional generating units have been put back into operation in the last 24 hours, according to the power company.
However, by Tuesday afternoon, malfunctions had rendered about 19 031 MW of electricity unavailable, and another 4174 MW had experienced maintenance outages.
Breakdowns of a unit each at Duvha, Lethabo, Majuba and Tutuka power stations caused units to be taken offline for repairs. The delay in returning to service a unit each at Arnot, Camden, Duvha and Kendal power stations are contributing to the current capacity constraints,” Eskom said.
