Power utility Eskom is celebrating 100 years of existence today.
Eskom is commemorating its 100th anniversary today (1 March)
The Electricity Supply Commission, or ESCOM, was founded on this date in March 1923.
The Electricity Act of 1922, which gave the South African Electricity Control Board permission to name Hendrik Johannes van der Bijl as chairman, enabled Eskom to be established.
According to Eskom, they currently use a variety of power plants to run the grid, including coal-fired, hydroelectric, nuclear, pumped-storage, wind, and diesel.
